I started taking Cameron shopping since he is fully capable of sitting up on his own. We took trips to Lowe's and Home Depot and both times he sat up in the cart and just had a blast. Well I got a little over confident about ditching the kid carrier. Cameron and I went to Wal-Mart. I sat him up in the seat part of the grocery cart and buckled him in. It was a pretty cold day so I damn near ran to get us into the store. I guess he must have felt a couple of G-forces because his balance and equilibrium were all thrown off. It started with a slow lean to the left. I adjusted him back upright. He started the lean again. Back upright. I started loading the basket with essentials, and the next thing I know the kid is leaning completely sideways in the cart. I prop him back upright by wedging the diaper bag on the leaning side. He starts leaning the other way. Seriously? I prop him up with my hand on the other side, but this basket is getting too heavy to maneuver with one hand. Then the fussiness starts. Oh no. I'm in the baby food aisle staring at Cameron, shoving a pacifier in his mouth, and pleading with him. I then start to unbuckle him thinking I'll just carry him. Am I nuts? That's 20 something pounds of wiggle worm and driving a 40 pound grocery cart with one arm. I am not the Hulk. I do what any mother would do...I buckle that kid back up and take off. I am pushing the basket at a half jog and we are taking turns on two wheels. We're going pretty fast. You want to know how I know? The wind is flying through Cameron's hair and the acceleration has caused him to lean all the way back. In the check out line, he is out of it. It's as though he never sat up a day in his life and now he has reverted to the stage of no neck control. We made it though and he regained neck control shortly thereafter.
